Winter Trip to Lake Yamanaka@Yamanashi: Enjoying Spectacular Views, Gourmet Food, and the Lantern Festival on 3-Day Getaway!(ENG)

国内旅行

This time, I’ll introduce my 3-day, 2-night trip to Yamanakako in early February. Easily accessible from Tokyo, Yamanakako is a spot filled with the unique beauty and charm of winter!

Day 1: Heading to Yamanakako After Work

On Friday evening, I left work early and started the drive from Tokyo to Yamanakako! Isn’t it great to get off work early on a Friday?! (By the way, in February, Yamanakako is covered with snow, so I recommend renting a car with snow tires.)

I stayed at “XIV Yamanakako.” The entrance exuded luxury, and I was excited by the sense of escapism. For dinner, I had a buffet at the hotel’s “Convention Hall Fuji,” which offered a mix of Japanese and Western dishes, all of which were delicious! After dinner, I soaked in the hot springs and spent a relaxing evening.

Day 2: Snowy Scenery and Mount Fuji! Lots of Events

After finishing breakfast, I headed to Yamanakako by car and took a walk along the lakeside. The contrast between the clear air, the lake, and the snow was beautiful, and I snapped a few photos.

After that, I drove to Fujiyoshida City and got some famous sweets! I bought Nama Shingen Mochi and strawberry daifuku at “Kinseiken.” The Nama Shingen Mochi had a jiggly texture, and the strawberry daifuku was delicious. The second floor also has a cafe space, so if you have time, I recommend stopping by. The shopping street was bustling with tourists trying to capture photos of Mount Fuji, so I parked a bit further away, but the walk was enjoyable.

After that, I visited the “Mount Fuji Museum Park.” The exhibits related to Mount Fuji were extensive, providing an educational and enjoyable experience. There was also projection mapping! From the rooftop, you can see Mount Fuji!

For lunch, I had Yamanashi’s local dish, hoto, at “Koshuji,” which was about a 5-minute walk away. Although it was fully booked and I had to wait for a bit, the piping hot hoto was perfect for the cold winter and was packed with delicious vegetables!

In the afternoon, I moved to Oshino Hakkai. I strolled leisurely while admiring the crystal-clear spring water.

And then, the main event—off to the “Lantern Festival” at Yamanakako Communication Plaza Kirara! Although I was freezing in the cold before it started, once it began, the soft glow of the lanterns gently illuminating the snowy scenery made me feel like I was in another world. Fireworks were also set off, and the sight of colorful fireworks shining in the cold night sky became a memory I will cherish forever.

In the evening, I returned to “XIV Yamanakako” and enjoyed an Italian dinner at “Ruccicolet.” The appetizers and desserts were buffet-style, and I could choose two main dishes, leaving me feeling completely satisfied by the end of the meal. (Before going to bed, I spent a bit of time at the retro game center playing Taiko no Tatsujin and air hockey.)

Day 3: Breakfast with a View of Mt. Fuji & Shopping at the Outlet

On the final morning, I was deeply moved by the clear view of Mt. Fuji from the large windows in the breakfast area! Having breakfast with such a beautiful view is the epitome of luxury.

Then, we stopped by the Gotemba Premium Outlets and enjoyed some shopping time before heading back to Tokyo, concluding a fulfilling 2-night, 3-day trip.

Summary

Winter at Lake Yamanaka offers not only the enjoyment of snowy landscapes and views of Mt. Fuji, but also delicious gourmet cuisine, the Lantern Festival, and winter fireworks, which are truly special experiences! Everyone, be sure to create wonderful winter memories at Lake Yamanaka!
